WHERE AM I?

Touring Exhibition, ArtStarts Gallery, 2022

The Where Am I exhibition is a tall blue and pink structure with stories featuring local environmental stories.
A group of children play outdoors, balancing sticks next to the Where Am I exhibition.

As WHERE AM I? travels from one place to another, it awakens new perspectives and different ways of engaging with our identities and the places where we live.

This exhibition meets with changing ecosystems, and invites young publics to ground themselves by practicing respect for and relationship with the land and its current and ancestral hosts.

Through movement, storytelling, and sound mapping, WHERE AM I? encourages audiences to ask:

Where am I situated?

What is my relationship to this place?

Who do I share this place with?

How can I care for this place?

How does this place take care of me?

Curated by Alyssa Martens and designed by Kay Slater, WHERE AM I? is the ArtStarts Gallery’s first traveling exhibition. The exhibition was developed in consultation with Host Consulting Inc., on the unceded and ancestral lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
